We’re HUGe fans of craft beer here at Social 101 and even more passionate about providers that do it with a conscience! Urban Alley Brewery absolutely embodies this!

We’re thrilled to reveal that Melbourne’s newest brew-house and pub, Urban Alley Brewery will officially opening this Friday at 11am. Even better, to celebrate it’ll be offering  2-for-1 beers throughout the entire weekend! We’ll raise a glass (or two) to that!

The venue is the first to launch the new District Docklands food and entertainment precinct which officially launches this November.  The opening marks the end of an extensive 8-month build comes to an end and Urban Alley Brewery opens its doors.

The on-site 25-hectolitre production facility that is separated from the brew-pub by only windows, is home to the entire Urban core range including Urban Alley Brewey’s signature Urban Ale (4.5%). The core range also includes Urban Lager (4.7%), Urban Dark (5.4%) and Urban APA (5.5%).

Alongside these core beers, Urban Alley will also have monthly brewers and seasonal releases. During the opening month of September, the selection of beers will include Alley IPA, Raspberry American Wrye and The Polish Samurai, a modern take on the Polish Grodziskie using Japanese hops. For punters who are spoilt for choice, they can fill their boots with Urban Alley Brewery’s flights, which includes 4 x 4 oz. tasters for $20.

The traditional ‘pub-grub’ food menu at Urban Alley Brewery caters for all needs, such as vegan, gluten and dairy-free

The usual suspects of burgers, steak and pizza are pride of place on the menu, alongside a variety of house-offerings including schnitzel, curry of the day and seafood linguine.  In addition, Urban Alley Brewery is providing an exclusive Kosher offering that will include crispy Cajun chips, nuggets, spicy buffalo wings and tempura cauliflower.

On Sundays, a traditional Sunday roast is available from 12pm, alongside live music performances from local talent from 4-7pm.

With the District Docklands fast becoming Melbourne’s newest dining and entertainment hub, community-focused initiatives have allowed Urban Alley to largely reduce its carbon footprint. The key to Urban Alley’s unique eco-model, has been the collaboration with local Victorian businesses to develop innovative and organic solutions. These include:

  • Partnering with a neighbouring distillery to reduce energy consumed in the heating and cooling process that takes place during brewing the beer and distilling the spirits.

  • Development of an on-site bio-waste plant allowing everything but the kitchen sink (well in Urban Alley’s case, spent grain) to be broken down and repurposed as fertilizer.

  • Biodegradable six pack rings (E6PR) have been introduced as standard for all Urban Alley products. Urban Allery Brewery is currently the only brewery in Australia and 5th brewery in the world to implement its use.

The Urban Alley Brewery brew-pub will be open for business seven days a week.  The NY loft meets Melbourne warehouse aesthetic connects the production facility to the 550-capacity brewpub constructed from recycled brick and wood throughout.
